I’ve been absent from the blog lately because I’ve been working on content for the 2013 Vintage Band Festival official program, which goes to press next week. And I need to get back to that soon ... But I thought I’d give you a preview of one thing that will be in the program – a new ad for my blog!
The great thing about editing and writing bios for all the 30+ bands that are coming for the festival is that I have absorbed a wealth of information about them. For example, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, which is performing a concert tonight in Paris, had a song in the Hunger Games movie, “War.” And the eight brothers in the band, sons of jazz trumpeter Phil Cohran, are the subject of a documentary called Brothers Hypnotic that premiered in March at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas, and will be shown July 27 at Lincoln Center in New York.
Speaking of movies, members of another band coming to the VBF2013, the Kentucky Baroque Trumpets, performed live in Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln as their doppelganger Civil War band, the Presidents’ Own Band. And the band members also were selected to be in the National Geographic movie Killing Lincoln.
I will give another band update soon. In the meantime, I encourage you to make plans to attend the festival, Aug. 1-4, here in Northfield, and visit the Vintage Band Festival website for more information about the participating bands and the schedule.
