You can look for a post-festival recap later this week, when I’ve recovered from all the excitement. In the meantime, here are a few festival highlights:
• Thursday evening: Dancing to the flight-delayed Hypnotic Brass Ensemble with Steve (who was free from Music Man obligations that evening), Sebastian and our stalwart friends who stayed despite the lateness of the concert.
• Friday morning: Giving a warmly received presentation to the Historic Brass Society about G. Oliver Riggs. I connected with some friendly and fascinating music historians and scholars during the HBS conference, including Vasily Matveychuk from Moscow State University, who gave a presentation on Russian military brass history.
• Friday evening: Watching the sun set over the Cannon River while Kenny Carr and the Tigers got people dancing in Bridge Square. It was an amazing night of music and community!
• Saturday noon: Meeting up with high school classmate Jon VanAmber, his wife Kris and son Cole, and watching the Battle of the (Civil War) Bands with them, plus Steve, my parents, my uncle Bob, my cousin Kristina, her daughters Kali and Piper, and my second cousin Halle. Quite a crew!
• Saturday evening: Introducing real-life music man G. Oliver Riggs to Northfield Arts Guild music man Mickey Morstad at a Music Man cast party.
If you weren’t able to make it for this year’s festival, you can start planning now for the next one. It’s set for July 28-31 in 2016 here in Northfield – home of Cows, Colleges and Cornets!
